11 Speakers to exchange dialogues in the International Sports Creativity Conference

The Secretariat General of “Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Creative Sports Award” has announced the programs of the sessions of the “International Sports Creativity Conference”, scheduled Monday 18th Nov. 2019 at Hilton Al-Habtoor Hotel under title “Tolerance and Peace in Sport”.

The International Sports Creativity Conference is organized by “MBR Creative Sports Award”; one of “Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives”.

The Conference comprises four sessions; to be addressed by 11 speakers of different generations and various creative experiences. The speakers will deal with fruitful topics that boost the Conference’s goals and enhance the sports sector in UAE, Arab World and the entire world.

Registration for the entry of the Conference Hall to commence at 09:00 am. 

The first session to begin at 09:30 am, under title “Sport is Language of Tolerance”.  The session will be managed by Mr. Mashaal Al-Qahtani, the Media Person in MBC TV., and addressed by the world Egyptian Judo champion “Mohammed Rashwan”, who represents a bright model of fair play and tolerance. He had attracted the attention of the sports family and acquired the full world’s respect when he sacrificed the golden medal in Los Angeles Olympics 1984. The story in brief was that during the final match of Los Angeles Olympics 1984, Rashwan preferred not to attack his Japanese competitor Yasuhiro Yamashita, who was injured on his foot and become an easy prey. On the contrary, the noble Egyptian champion avoided to press on the competitor’s injured foot to win the game and preferred to lose the match and to get only the silver medal. However, he got the world family’s respect and he was widely appreciated by all media toward this noble behavior. Mohammed Rashwan retired in 1992 and become an international referee and a member in the Technical Committee of the Egyptian Judo Federation.

He has attained several remarkable achievements during his rich career as judo star; among which are the silver medal in Los Angeles Olympics 1984 / golden medal in African Championship / 3 golden medals in African Games / 3 golden medals in Mediterranean Games / 2 golden medals in the World Military Tournament / one golden medal in Switzerland Competition, besides many other silver and bronze medals in various military and world competitions.

The first session will also be addressed by Daniela Bass, Director of the Division of the Comprehensive Social Development in the UN Economic and Social Affairs since 2011. Besides her service in in the UN from 1986 to 1955, she has also assumed administrative posts from 1996 to 2011 in the private sector in Italy. She also served as counselor for the Human Rights and Social Affairs in the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister Office. She is accredited journalist and competent trainer of multi-cultures.


The second session, under title “Sports Diplomacy”, to be managed by Riaa Sand – the Media Person in Dubai TV, and addressed by the Minister of Sport in Zimbabwe “Kirsty Coventry” who also assumes the  memberships of the International Olympic Committee / The African Olympic Committee / The World Anti–Doping Agency. Kirsty Coventry was the best swimmer in Africa and one of the top world swimmers throughout the history. Kirsty devotes considerable time to charitable activities besides her hard efforts to assist children and improve environment.  

The second session will also be addressed by H.E. Dr. Sonia Bin Cheikh, the Minister of Youth and Sport in Tunisia who encourages youth and family to exercise sport. She also supports women sport and motivates people of determination to practice sport.

The third session is dedicated to junior champions and will be managed by Mr. Hassan Habib, Deputy Manager of Dubai Sports Channel. This session will be addressed by Olympic taekwondo champion Ahmed Abughaush of Jordon / Olympic fencing champion Inas Bu Bakri of Tunisia / Saudi Olympic champion Mohammed Al-Assiri, / Egyptian champion Ahmed Al-Jundi, / Fatima Al-Zahra of Morocco / equestrian champion Omar Al-Marzouqi of UAE. 

The last session, under title “Champion Experience”, is managed by Mr. Yaaqoub Al-Saadi, Manager of Abu Dhabi Sports Channel and will be addressed by Carl Lewis, one of the most prominent athlete ever in the athletic games. He contested 4 Olympics and was named as the “Century Athlete”. Carl Lewis won 10 Olympic titles among which were 9 golden medals. He also gained 10 world medals. Carl Lewis retired in 1997 and since then he spent most of his time in charitable works. Carl Lewis became ambassador for the UN Food and Agriculture.  

“MBR Creative Sports Award” will launch during the Conference a new initiative for the support of  junior creative athletes. Various partnerships will be signed between “MBR Creative Sports Award” and several governmental and private entities.
